Отражение (Reflection).

Всё вокруг нас отражает свет. Все объекты, состоящие из различных материалов, вода, воздух, наша кожа, волосы, мех животных - абсолютно всё в этом мире в той или иной степени отражает свет и преломляет его. Сила отражения зависит от яркости освещения. Чем сильнее (ярче) светит солнце, тем больше лучей света отражаются от поверхности и тем лучше видны окружающие нас предметы. И наоборот, в полной темноте мы ничего не видим. Так устроено наше зрение. Мы видим свет, отраженный от объектов, а не сами объекты.

При падении лучей света на различные поверхности, они в зависимости от степени неровности (шероховатости) поверхности материала, способны или отражаться в одном направлении, или лучи света отражаются в разных направлениях. Наибольшей способностью отражать свет обладают гладкие (полированные) поверхности. На них более четко видны отражения окружающих предметов для нашего глаза.

Во втором случае отраженные от шероховатых поверхностей лучи света перекрывают друг друга, лучи отражаются от отдельных неровностей во все стороны - отраженный свет рассеивается. Отражения еле заметны или не заметны вовсе. Лучше всего рассеивают лучи света поверхности с малыми, не видные не вооруженным взглядом неровностями, например бумага, гипс, мел и так далее. Сильно рассеивают свет частицы пыли и тумана.

Преломление (Refraction).

Если материал на который падает свет имеет какую либо степень прозрачности, то часть лучей отражается от него, а другая часть лучей света либо поглощается, либо преломляется и идет дальше сквозь него. Преломляют свет в той или иной степени все прозрачные материалы и вещества - вода, стекло, пластик, газ, воздух. Толщина объекта из прозрачного материала усиливает преломление лучей света.
